FAQs

What is Sex Therapy?

Sex Therapy is a specialized form of therapy focusing on resolving sexual difficulties and increasing sexual well-being.

What causes sexual difficulties?

There are a myriad of factors that can contribute to sexual difficulties including biological, social, cultural, medical, and psychological. Sex therapy is designed to assess these areas and use several different approaches to treat sexual dysfunction. We also work in conjunction with doctors and physical therapists to provide a complete mind-body approach.

What if I am too embarrassed to talk about it?

It’s normal to feel anxious talking about sex. We all do at some point in our lives. Part of the process of sex therapy is to create a space where you can begin to feel comfortable with your body and learn about healthy sexuality. A healthy relationship with your self improves your mind, body, and relationships.

Do you focus only on sex?

No. Sex is more than just physical. We focus on intimacy issues, resolving communication issues, improving general knowledge about sex, assessing your attitudes and beliefs, and improving body image.

Does actual sex happen in session?

No sexual activity is ever practiced in the therapist’s office. Activities may be suggested by the therapist to be done at home.

How much does it cost and do you accept insurance?

A 50 minute session is $149. We accept cash, credit card, and checks. Any cancellations less than 24 hours in advance will be charged $60. An initial 15 minute phone consultation is free. Further charges for phone sessions are outlined in Clinical Practices. Sliding scale spots are available.

For MS clients, we accept Aetna and United Healthcare. We offer a self-pay and sliding scale fee based on income. (Beginning June 1, 2023 we will be Virtual Only).

For TX clients, we accept BCBS of TX and United Healthcare, offer a self-pay fee and sliding scale based on income (Virtual Only)

For WA clients, we accept UHC and Aetna, offer a self-pay fee and sliding scale based on income. (Virtual Only)

What are the hours of operation?

Sexual Wellness Therapy has appointment times available Monday-Friday between 10:00-8:30pm. Requests on alternative days are considered.

Is Telehealth Available?

Yes. Sexual Wellness Therapy uses a HIPPA compliant platform tool. The only restriction is you must live in Mississippi or Texas due to therapy licensing laws. No software is required to be downloaded. The Telehealth link will be sent by e-mail or will be available in the client portal. What accessibility services do you provide?

We try to accommodate where it is possible. We hire interpreters. Our office in Mississippi is on the first floor with accessible parking and a ramp. The door sill is slightly raised. The restroom is large, but not handicap accessible.

Where are you licensed?

I am currently licensed in the state of Mississippi (Telehealth and In-person) and Texas (Telehealth Only).

> *You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
